The Inspired Paraprofessional
An Online Class for Effective Inclusive Schooling
What do you get?
This energizing 5 session online course is for all paraprofessionals working in inclusive schools, grades K-12 who wish to increase their knowledge about supporting diverse learners. This online course is an effective stand-alone training for paraprofessionals using current, research-based and recommended practice. Dr. Causton’s book The Paraprofessional’s Handbook for Effective Support in Inclusive Classrooms can also be used as an excellent supplement for the course.
Topics for the course include: special and inclusive education basics, providing invisible supports in the classroom, academic, social, and behavioral supports, and strategies for effective communication and collaboration with others.
Each class is 30 minutes long and includes video and printable resources. We have designed the course to be asynchronous, so that participants with differing schedules can create unique timelines for beginning and completing the course. We have also made sure participants will always have access to the course, so that they can log in and revisit specific sessions or favorite materials whenever they choose. Learning Logs and a Certificate of Completion are included, and once completed, the course can be credited with 3 professional development hours. If participants use The Paraprofessional’s Handbook as supplementary material, the course and book together can be credited as 6 professional development hours.
Principals and superintendents can purchase this course to support all of their paraprofessionals.View options
Who are we?
This course has been designed by Julie Causton, PhD and Kate MacLeod, PhD, who have a collective 30 years of experience both as educators and supporting educators. Dr. Julie Causton authored the best selling book, The Paraprofessional’s Handbook, that is used across the country. We think that paraprofessionals are a critical aspect of inclusive schooling, and know there is a great need for increased support and knowledge to help paraprofessionals support diverse students successfully.
