Key answers and ways in with we combine our strengths to create more inclusive educational practices.

[text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left”]1) What was your best day ever and how does that impact your work? (0:30 in video)
Kristie: May mom would ask, “What do you want to do today?” I would always say, “Go to the lagoon” –> embodies the excitement of going to an amusement park and all the possibilities it would give the day.
Julie: When I was building frog hotels and watching my family play cards. Common area for the frogs –> create connection; Laughing so hard –> wildly fun; Shooting the Moon –> Never underestimate anyone
2) How do we compliment one another? (7:30)
Kristie LOVES: Spreadsheets, details, organized lists, and lots of steps to answer best order or approach.
Julie LOVES: Blank Canvases, Open Spaces, Colorful Markers, Dreams and Possibilities, Visions Boards, and an Organized List (if someone else helps me make it)[/text_block]
[text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left”]3) What is your biggest goal or achievement? (12:45)
Kristie: 2013 Sabbatical – Full Professor with Tenor. On Sabbatical and wanted to leave academia, “I don’t think I am going to go back”. May 31, 2013 I said, “I’m Leaving” – First step to achieve my biggest goal and be in service of those who I care about most (Educators). Thrive as an entrepreneur and be of use to those doing the hard work every day.
Julie: My Kids – they have made me a softer person, constantly thinking “What if that was my child?” and they always push my thinking. Next would be getting my Doctorate while pregnant. Then my business – Inclusive Schooling. Lastly, Coming Out – When I present and I think I did a great job presenting, people say, “Thank you for talking about your wife.” Showing up as your whole self. Good and bad, confusing and complex – that is when you truly connect with people.[/text_block]

[text_block style=”style_1.png” align=”left”]Challenging behavior is one of the most significant issues educators face. Though it may seem radical to use words like love, compassion, and heart when we talk about behavior and discipline, the compassionate and heartfelt words, actions, and strategies teachers employ in the classroom directly shape who students are—and who they will become. But how can teaching from the heart translate into effective supports and practices for students who exhibit challenging behavior?[/text_block]
